Adult Classes

New to art making? See our Offerings to get oriented.

Since 1976, RGS has served the community by nurturing self-expression, creativity and the visual arts. Our approach is built on paying attention to the individual needs and desires of each student, no matter what level they are at. We use the dialogue method in our studio classes – one-on-one conversations with the artwork in process as a focus. Rather than working toward a predetermined outcome, we encourage each person to experiment, explore, and devise their own solutions. Our aim is to build confidence, expand possibilities, and explore the joy of making, as well as to teach art fundamentals and useful techniques.

  • Imagine a haven for children to create and express themselves without boundaries. The River Gallery School of Art is just that, and I wish we had something similar in our town. I have never seen an art school that truly lets the kids lead. Upon arrival, children are encouraged to draw or color, to start the creativity. After “warming up” they are then set loose in the studio, with the option to pick a room and project. Kudos to River Gallery School of Art – I wish more places embraced children’s creative processes!
